Association update
Through January and February our branches have been working hard holding their AGMs and social events: Comberton & District, the Hansford Branch and Swavesey & District have all been very active – and Queen Edith's is holding its AGM on 28th February.
We also have three brand new branches – let's welcome Cambourne and Caldecote, the Gamlingay, Mordens and Bassingbourn Branch, and Girton, Bar Hill and Cottenham into the Association. The first two have had inaugural meetings and Girton’s is on 21st February.
Branches are the lifeblood of the Conservative movement and vital to the Association for helping to bring more people into the Party through social events and campaigning locally. Soon, the entire constituency will benefit from having active local branches.
Being part of a local branch can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. I would encourage all Members to get to know your local committees and the exciting events near you they are planning – look out for information from your local branch.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved in running branches for their hard work and enthusiasm – it is greatly appreciated.
Remarkable year end result
I am pleased to say the Association is in a greatly improved financial position and was in surplus at the end of 2018 – something not achieved for many, many years.
Going from deficit over the last few years to surplus in 2018 is even more remarkable given the cost of the all-out District Council election last year, the centralisation of membership (which saw affiliation fees double), and replacing the IT equipment in the Hardwick office to create a 21st century workspace.
I’m sure you will agree this is fantastic news, which I hope will set a new trend of more prosperous years in the future.
I would also like to thank my Management Team colleagues for the considerable time and personal effort they put in to achieve this.
